Get to grips with Portraiture
26 June & 18 September
5 spaces on each day

Studio portraiture & working with lights, be they flash or continuous lighting, can be tricky. This workshop is designed to help attendees understand the basics of studio lighting and also how to work with models. It aims to give more confidence and know-how in the studio so that your future portrait shoots are that much more successful.
The day will start by covering the various basic lighting techniques - Rembrandt lighting, Paramount, Loop and Split; how to use one light vs two or more; how best to use bounce reflectors (white and black); the importance of the backdrop. We will practice these studio set ups with a mannequin first so that we can be more creative when our models arrive for the afternoon. Then we will perfect the shots 'live'.
The session will include an in-depth discussion about how to work with models - how to create a vision for your photographs and how to collaborate together with the model to bring that vision to life.
We will follow up the live portraiture session with a 2 hour zoom meeting covering processing techniques for portraiture images - how to deal with skin, make eyes pop, shadowing, masking, changing the backdrop etc.
