About Quest

Quest Photography was established by Colin Westgate in 1993 following early retirement from his career in banking. The main function of Quest was, initially, photographic tuition, mostly based in the darkroom, but today the emphasis is on photographic holidays and of course tuition and guidance are an essential part of that. Quest's ethic is to provide excellent value for money, with photography in spectacular locations in an informal and friendly atmosphere.  Since 2018 Colin has been joined by Tom Peck, who has now taken over the day to day running of Quest. Tom is busy bringing some fantastic new locations to Quest, both in the UK and abroad. Exciting times ahead!

Tom's first love is landscape, from the colourful intricacies of Epping Forest, where he lives, to the wide vistas and dramatic landscapes of the American West - an area he knows particularly well. He is a regular contributor to photographic journals such as Black & White Photography and onlandscape.co.uk. He has completed his LRPS and CPAGB. He also lectures at photographic societies and teaches photography both in the field and in post-production. His passion for the landscape is evident in his workshops where he brings his enthusiasm, good humour and patient style to the fore with his clients. Tom has brought a new dimension to Quest, with his own ideas and some exciting locations. New for 2024 are Safari Photographic trips to Kenya, joint ventures with Ponders Travel to provide photographic cruises on a spectacular tall ship in the Greek Islands, as well as many of the classic workshop trips that Quest is known for: Skye, The Faroes, phone photography in London & Tuscany.

Colin Westgate commenced his interest in photography in 1959, and it quickly became an essential part of his life. His early love of landscape has not diminished and he has travelled extensively, both in the UK and overseas, particularly to Iceland, to which he travels three or four times every year.. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society in 1976 and in 1990, obtained Mastership of the International Federation of Photographic Art - at the time only the second British photographer to earn this distinction. More recently, he was awarded Mastership of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. He is also a Member of the London Salon of Photography and has sat on the panels for the Royal Photographic Society’s Licentiateship distinctions, and for Associate & Fellowship in Photographic Printing. He has exhibited throughout the world, gaining many awards and has been a selector at a number of home and International exhibitions. He lectures and judges at camera clubs throughout the U.K.
