Locations & Accommodation

Most workshops are based at Seaford, on the Sussex coast, but in addition, some are located on Mersea Island, near Colchester, Essex. Seaford, in Sussex, is situated at the edge of the South Downs, and is approximately mid way between Brighton & Eastbourne, on the A259. For the landscape photographer, there is much to offer, from the open scenery of the South Downs , to the spectacular coastline cliffs of the renowned Seven Sisters, Birling Gap and Beachy Head. Moreover, if you attend a summer workshop, you might even be able to take a dip in the sea! There is a regular rail service to London Victoria and along the south coast and plenty of accommodation is available in the town and neighbourhood. Historic Lewes, about 10 miles from Seaford, is the county town of East Sussex, and is situated in the heart of the downs. From there, Brighton is only 20 minutes away by car or train, and there is an hourly train service to London.

West Mersea is on the Blackwater Estuary in a delightful coastal location. Sailing is a feature and there are many photographic subjects along the waterfront, sometimes including unusual houseboats and historic smacks. The East Anglian area is well worthy of exploration, with interesting creeks and estuaries, as well as historical villages and towns. Colchester is England’s oldest recorded town, and has an interesting castle. There is a regular bus service from Colchester, and a frequent rail service to London Liverpool Street and Ipswich.
